Catriona Menzies-Pike

Hallo! I am an Australian writer, editor and researcher based in Vancouver, British Columbia. I am an Adjunct Fellow of the Writing and Society Research Centre at Western Sydney University and I work on a freelance basis for clients in Australia and Canada.

Writer
I am an award-winning critic and essayist. In 2023 I was awarded the Walkley-Pascall Prize for arts criticism. I'm the author of a book about long-distance running called The Long Run, published in Australia in 2016 and in the US in 2017. I'm also the editor of four anthologies of essays and critical writing. Editor
Between 2015 and 2023 I was the editor of the Sydney Review of Books. I worked with hundreds of Australian writers to develop original, independent and incisive work for publication: essays, criticism and interviews. I've worked with Nobel Prize-winners, writers at the very beginning of their careers – and everyone in between. Together we shaped a new public conversation about Australian literature. 

I was Arts Editor at The Conversation between 2012 and 2015 and Managing Editor at pioneering news and current affairs website New Matilda between 2010 and 2012.

I work on a freelance basis as an editor of books, reports, chapters and essays.

I live with my partner and two children on the on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. I've been lucky to spend most of my life on the sovereign lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora nation. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land
